RDA DRESSAGE COMPETITION
THORNEY ISLAND, WEST SUSSEX

West Sussex Riding Club very kindly organised an RDA Dressage Day at their base at Thorney Island, near Chichester on Sunday 7th March 2010. It was the first such event to be held at this venue and most successful it was too.
With a two-hour journey ahead of them, the Bradbourne riders, helpers and horses needed to get an early start. The frost lay thick on the ground and the temperature was minus 5 when the first hardy helpers arrived at Bradbourne before 6am to get Billy and Finn fed and groomed and their manes and tails plaited ready for their day out.
By 7:30 everyone was ready to set off and the horses and riders were safely aboard Rosie’s comfortable horse box. An uneventful journey saw the whole team arrive safely in good time at Thorney Island, where a cold wind blew off the nearby sea.
Every available sweater, fleece, jacket, coat, hat and pair of gloves was called into service as the riders tried to keep warm before their event.
Thankfully, however, the sun shone brightly all day and the event couldn’t have had a nicer setting.
Despite a few nerves, all the riders performed to a very high standard and it was congratulations all round as the Bradbourne riders ended up with a flurry of rosettes. Billy and Finn, as always, behaved impeccably and thoroughly enjoyed their day out.
We are very grateful to all the helpers for their hard work, to Rosie for driving us there and to West Sussex Riding Club for hosting such an enjoyable event.
